Turkey Honeymoon Itinerary 2026: 10 Days, Real Costs and What to Book First
Turkey is an exceptional honeymoon destination — but most couples arrive without a clear picture of what things actually cost, what needs booking months in advance and how to structure 10 days to get the best of multiple very different experiences. This guide addresses all three questions directly.
Why Turkey Works So Well for a Honeymoon
Before the itinerary, the honest case for Turkey as a honeymoon destination:
- The variety: In 10 days you can move from the otherworldly volcanic landscape of Cappadocia to the turquoise Aegean coast — two completely different experiences in one trip
- The accommodation: Turkey's cave hotels in Cappadocia and boutique hotels on the Aegean coast are genuinely romantic in a way that standard hotel rooms are not — private terraces, stone interiors, extraordinary views
- The value: A cave hotel with a private terrace in Cappadocia costs €150–250 per night. An equivalent romantic boutique hotel in Santorini or the Amalfi Coast costs €400–700. The experience is comparable or better; the cost is a fraction
- The food: Turkish food — mezze, fresh seafood, slow-cooked lamb, extraordinary breakfast spreads — is one of the world's great cuisines and an important part of the honeymoon experience
The 10-Day Turkey Honeymoon Itinerary
This itinerary combines Cappadocia (3 nights) + Istanbul (2 nights) + Aegean coast (4 nights) — the most popular combination for honeymoon couples.
Days 1–2: Istanbul — Arrive and Explore
Where to stay: Boutique hotel in Beyoğlu or Sultanahmet — aim for a property with a rooftop terrace overlooking the Bosphorus or the old city skyline. Budget: €120–200/night for genuinely romantic options.
What to do:
- Day 1: Arrive, check in, rooftop dinner overlooking the city. Rest.
- Day 2: Hagia Sophia and Topkapı Palace in the morning (arrive early). Afternoon: Bosphorus cruise. Evening: dinner at a meyhane in Beyoğlu — order a spread of cold mezze, then grilled fish. This is one of the finest dinner experiences in Turkey.
Honeymoon tip: Many Istanbul boutique hotels offer complimentary honeymoon upgrades (rose petals, champagne) if you mention it's your honeymoon at booking. Always mention it.

Days 3–5: Cappadocia — The Centrepiece
How to get there: Fly Istanbul → Kayseri (1 hour, approximately €30–60 per person one way). Private transfer from Kayseri airport to Göreme: approximately €40–60 for the couple.
Where to stay: A cave hotel with a private terrace is non-negotiable for a honeymoon. The view from a private terrace over the fairy chimneys at sunrise — particularly if your balloon passes overhead — is one of the most romantic experiences available anywhere.
Recommended approach: Look for hotels in Göreme, Uçhisar or Ortahisar with genuinely private terraces (not shared). Budget: €150–350/night for the romantic experience.
What to do:
Day 3: Arrive afternoon. Settle in. Sunset from your terrace or from Göreme Panorama viewpoint. Early dinner, early sleep.
Day 4 — The Balloon: Wake at 5:30am. The operator collects you at approximately 6am. The flight lasts 60–90 minutes, typically landing around 8:30am. Champagne breakfast follows (standard practice). Return to hotel for breakfast and a slow morning. Afternoon: Rose Valley or Pigeon Valley walk — gentle, extraordinarily beautiful.
Day 5: Derinkuyu Underground City in the morning (extraordinary — 85 metres deep, used by 20,000 people). Avanos in the afternoon — pottery workshops, lunch by the river. Ihlara Valley if time allows.
What to book first: The balloon. This is the single booking that requires the most advance notice — particularly in May, June, September and October, flights fill weeks in advance. Book directly with a licensed operator as soon as your dates are confirmed.
Day 6: Transit Day — Cappadocia to İzmir or Fethiye
Fly Kayseri → İzmir (approximately 1 hour, €30–70 per person). Or fly directly to Dalaman for the Fethiye / Ölüdeniz area.
Transit day tip: Use this as a slower day — good lunch at Kayseri airport, land, check in at your Aegean hotel, evening walk.
Days 7–10: Aegean Coast — Sun, Sea and Antiquity
The Aegean / Turquoise Coast section of the honeymoon offers a completely different register — warmth, colour, water and ancient history.
Two options:
Option A: İzmir base (better for history)
- Day 7: Arrive İzmir. Afternoon at Kemeraltı bazaar. Dinner at Kordon waterfront.
- Day 8: Ephesus full morning (arrive 9am, stay until noon). Afternoon at Şirince village — wine tasting, local lunch.
- Day 9: Çeşme or Alaçatı — beach day. Alaçatı has the most romantic boutique hotels and restaurants on the Aegean coast.
- Day 10: Depart from İzmir airport.
Option B: Fethiye/Ölüdeniz base (better for coastline)
- Day 7: Arrive Fethiye. Check in. Boat trip to the lagoon at Ölüdeniz — the turquoise water in late afternoon is extraordinary.
- Day 8: Butterfly Valley by boat. Kayaköy abandoned village in the afternoon.
- Day 9: Kaş day trip — Kekova sunken city boat tour.
- Day 10: Depart from Dalaman airport.
Where to stay on the Aegean:
- Alaçatı (İzmir option): Boutique hotels in restored stone houses — genuinely romantic, excellent restaurants. Budget: €120–250/night
- Fethiye area: Boutique hotels with sea views. Budget: €100–220/night
Honest Cost Breakdown: 10-Day Turkey Honeymoon

|---|---|
| Flights (international, 2 people) | €400 – €900 |
| Domestic flights (2 people, 2 legs) | €120 – €280 |
| Accommodation (9 nights, 2 people) | €900 – €2,700 |
| Hot air balloon (2 people) | €300 – €440 |

| Transport, transfers, entry fees | €200 – €400 |

The honest middle: A well-planned 10-day Turkey honeymoon for two, with genuinely romantic cave hotel and boutique accommodation, the balloon, good food and Ephesus, costs approximately €3,500–4,000 including international flights. This is significantly less than an equivalent romantic trip to Italy, Greece or the Maldives.
